Synopsis

Buppah Rahtree (Chermarn Boonyasak) is back once again! This time her spirit merges with a little razor blade girl called Pla (Nuttawan Saksiri) who got killed in Room 609. Meanwhile, the apartment’s landlady (Chantana Kittiyapan) and mini casino operator (Kom Chuanchuen) are organizing an illegal gambling nearby the apartment block.

Rung (Mario Muarer), the young cartoonist who is a neighbour downstairs is eager to pursue Buppah for her tutorial help in his studies but got rejected due to unsuitable time. Once the police discover about the illegal gambling in the apartment, one policeman from Hong Kong is assigned to catch the culprits involved. This time Buppah, Pla and a corpse wrapped in white cloth is terrorizing Oscar Apartment.

This prompted the landlady to hire a Cambodian shaman (Somlek Sakdikul) to deal with the ghost spirits. What is the outcome of the battle between the shaman and the ghost spirits? Will the casino operator be caught by the police in the end? And will Rung be successful in pursuing Buppah’s love?

It is time for Oscar apartment to renovate after the death of the former owner. Now, it’s Jai Sam who takes over the whole business and stealthily turns the third floor into an illegal casino. Meanwhile, Rung, a handsome guy who has a job as horror cartoonist moves in for a personal reason. As Rung has a supernatural ability to see ghost, he finally meets Buppha, a mysterious girl who lives in the room 609. Soon, He falls in love with her.

When love is blind, Rung isn’t aware that his crush indeed is the haunting and dangerous spirit that he needs to avoid. But he is too late when his sweet dream turns to nightmare as Buppha is now on the rage again.

Synopsis

A group of down-on-their-luck comedians turn to bank robbery to keep food on the table. They unwittingly use a haunted apartment for their hideout and when their money goes missing, they break into the sealed sixth floor and find the money in the mysterious room 609 where they become trapped by a ghost…

Buppah Rahtree is a loner female student at a Bangkok university who becomes the object of a wager by a group of male students to see if she can be bedded. Ake, the son of a wealthy family, takes the bet and courts young Buppah. She resists him at first, but one day sees him feeding pigeons in a park and goes to talk to him. She remarks that in her next life she hopes to become a bird, so she could fly away. Noting his BMW convertible parked nearby, she goes on to say that if she had a way, she would fly away right now. So Ake takes Buppah for a ride down the highway. They continue to have a relationship, which culminates in a three-day weekend at Bang Saen, during which Ake has sex with her and stays in bed with her the whole time.

Ake had videotaped their sessions and upon his return to Bangkok, he shows the tape to his friends. He has succeeded where the others failed and for his efforts, he wins a bottle of Johnnie Walker, which he reflects to himself seems like a trivial prize for messing up another person’s life. Ake then breaks off all contact with Buppah, who finds she cannot reach him by phone.

One day she is given a ride in a car by her stepfather, who takes Buppah to a short-time hoteland sexually assaults her. She stabs her stepfather with her fountain pen, that was given to her by her stepfather as a present and runs home to her apartment, room 609. Depressed, she decides to commit suicide and is about to cut her wrist with a utility knife when the phone rings. It is Ake and he wants to meet her. Ake informs Buppah about the wager with his friends and apologizes. He then informs her that he is to leave Thailand to study in England, but he hopes he and she can still be friends. Buppah then informs Ake that she is two months’ pregnant. Ake is directed by his mother to convince Buppah to have an abortion. He brings her back to her apartment after the operation, and she is in obvious pain. He says he is going to get her some rice congee, but he instead gets in his car and drives away and then leaves the next day for England.

Buppah is living an apartment block managed by Mrs. See. One day Mrs. See tries to collect rent money from Buppah, who answers the door and looks weak, but says she’ll pay the rent the next day. The next day passes and the landlady goes to investigate. She finds Buppah’s door locked and chained. Using a hacksaw, Mrs. See’s brother gains entry to apartment 609, and he discovers Buppah’s corpse in the bathroom. Buppah has bled to death due to complications from the abortion.

The police come, along with a spiky-haired female medical examiner, and the rescue squad, to retrieve the body. However, when the rescuers try to carry Buppah’s body out, she starts moving. They put the corpse on the bed, and she sits up, scaring the rescue men, who run screaming from the room. The police are then sent in to retrieve the body, but they, too, are rebuffed. Buppah’s vengeful spirit refuses to be dislodged.

The apartment block is home to a false shaman named Maew, who puts on a daily act and earns quite a bit of money for Mrs. See. To make people believe he is real, Mrs. See convinces Maew to try and exorcise the ghost. After he fails, he convinces his teacher, Master Tong, to try. For his effort, Master Tong is left with a knife in his back.

Then, a pair of Roman Catholic priests try to perform an exorcism, but only end up having obscenities shouted at them by the ghost, who also vomits a liquid akin to pea soup on one of the priests.

Buppah’s ghost runs wild throughout the apartment block. One night, she haunts every bathroom in every room. Her death by bleeding is re-enacted, with black blood flooding the hallway. Residents leave in droves, ruining Mrs. See’s finances.

Meanwhile, Ake has grown homesick in England, and has turned to drug use. He wants to come home. He then appears at Buppah’s door, and offers to bring her some rice congee. Ake catches the eye of Muay, a young woman at the congee stand. Muay seduces Ake, and has him take her to an old movie theater, where they have sex. When Ake returns to Buppah’s apartment, he has forgotten the congee. Buppah knows that Ake has cheated on her, and for his transgression, she amputates his legs with the hacksaw that had been left behind by Mrs. See’s brother.

Muay later comes to the apartment to find Ake. Buppah takes possession of Muay’s body and starts to have Muay cut her own legs off with the hacksaw.

Mrs. See still wants to get Buppah out of her building, so she has summoned a genuine shaman from Cambodia. The shaman and his men come to the apartment just as Muay is being possessed. They put a spirit cloth over Ake and on Buppah’s corpse. Through a prayer, the shaman is able to get Buppah’s spirit back into the corpse. They then plan to take Buppah to a temple to be cremated, but on the way, the spirit cloth blows off the body, which is in the back of a pickup truck. Buppah takes control of the vehicle and causes it to crash into another truck.

Muay, saddened by the turn of events, makes contact with Ake’s father, who is angered and puzzled by the call. As it turns out, Ake has been dead for more than a month. Muay had sexual relations with Ake’s ghost.

Buppah is back in apartment 609, where she will likely stay for eternity. Ake’s ghost, now legless, sits outside in the hallway, and apologizes to Buppah for the rest of his ghost eternity.

Set in modern Bangkok, the life of groom Mak is disturbed, by successive nightmares with a ghost woman, Mae Nak, an ancient Thai legend. He meets his beloved fiancée Nak to acquire an antique brooch and an old abandoned house in Phra Khanong through an unscrupulous real estate agent Angel and they decide to buy the property.

After their wedding, two small-time thieves break into the house and steal their gifts and other objects. Mak happens to see the criminals on the streets of Bangkok selling his goods. He chases the burglars and they run their van over Mak, who falls into a deep coma. The ghost Mae Nak protects the young couple against Angel and the burglars, but in return she holds the soul of Mak.

Nak finds the remains of Mae Nak in an ancient cemetery, and with some monks, they exorcise Mae Nak from Mak using the ancient brooch and release her spirit.

Ting (Pitchanart Sakakorn) adalah seorang artis yang sedang giat mempedalam ilmu aktingnya supaya bisa menjadi artis terkenal.  Untuk semakin memperdalam ilmu aktingnya, Ting menerima tawaran Lieutenant Te (Kiradej Ketakinta) dari Kepolisian Kerajaan Thailand menjadi artis yang memerankan korban pembunuhan dalam sebuah olah TKP. Ting memperlihatkan aktingnya yang membuat orang-orang terkagum-kagum bahkan para penjahat dalam olah TKP dimana Ting berperan sebagai korban merasa menyesal setelah melihat acting Ting. Perlahan-lahan Ting mulai terkenal.

Suatu saat Ting ditawarkan untuk berperan sebagai Mrs. Meen (Apasiri Nitibhon) seorang mantan Miss Thailand yang diduga tewas dibunuh oleh kekasihnya Dr. Charum (Chokchai Charoensuk) dan mayatnya tidak pernah ditemukan. Tawaran ini akan menjadi kesempatan Ting untuk membuktikan bakatnya berakting. Ting mulai meneliti hidup Mrs. Meen supaya bisa lebih mendalami karakter Meen yang akan Ting perankan. Hal ini membuat arwah Meen mengganggu kehidupan Ting dan Ting akan terbebas apabila telah menemukan pembunuh Meen.

Monthon Arayangkoon pada awal film mampu membuat diri saya ini merasakan ketakutan, baik dari cerita ataupun kemunculan-kemunculan hantu-hantunya dan tentu saja suara musiknya yang membuat jantung ini mau copot (maklum nonton malam2 plus pake headshet). Ya, masalah takut-menakuti selalu mampu membuat saya merasa ketakutan. Ini yang aku suka dari horror Thailand. Balik ke masalah cerita yang disajikan sang sutradara.

Cerita berjalan dengan baik, mulai dari siapa itu Ting dan kemudian beralih ke scene-scene dimana Pitchanart Sakakon yang berperan sebagai Ting berakting sebagai korban dari satu TKP ke TKP yang lain. Hingga ke adegan dimana Ting bertemu dengan Fai  diperankan oleh Penpak Sirikul yang adalah teman perempuan Meen yang suka dengannya sekaligus pembunuh asli si Meen. Sampai disini, Arayangkoon bisa membuat saya betah duduk di depan laptop. Nah, setelah ini ceritanya mulai membuat saya bingung.  Ternyata adegan yang sedari awal membuat saya betah merupakan adegan dari sebuah film berjudul The Victim, dan Ting yang sedari awal merupakan tokoh yang diperankan artis bernama May (diperankan oleh Pitchanart Sakakon juga).

Sedikit membingungkan, jadi saya pun mencoba nonton untuk yang kedua kalinya supaya bisa menangkap cerita dan siapa sebenarnya yang menghantui si tokoh utama ini. Setelah ditonton untuk kedua kalinya saya jadi sedikit mengerti. Jadi disini itu ada dua plot cerita. Plot pertama yang bercerita tentang Ting yang berperan sebagai Mrs Meen dalam usaha pengungkapan usaha pembunuhannya. Nah Plot yang kedua ini bercerita tentang May, seorang artis terkenal yang terganggu setelah memakai sebuah perhiasan khas Thailand (Saya akhirnya ngerti setelah dua kali nonton). Jadi inti ceritanya disini kalau yang saya tangkap sih yang plot kedua.  Plot pertama hanyalah opening untuk menuju ke Plot sebenarnya dari film ini. Ada sedikit kekurangan dalam film ini. Beberapa penampakan hantu ada yang dibuat dengan efek CGI, saya nggak suka. Mending efeknya bagus dan terlihat nyata, disini terlihat jelek dan cenderung amatir. Saya sih lebih suka lihat penampakan hantu yang tanpa memakai efek2 seperti itu. Mengenai Sinematografi, background music saya tetap mengacungkan jempol.

Menyeramkan diawal film dan mulai kehilangan feelnya menjelang film berakhir. Seperti itulah yang saya tangkap setelah nonton film The Victim, horror Thailand besutan sutradara Monthon Arayangkoon yang juga menyutradarai film The House. Itu kalau ditonton hanya sekali tetapi setelah ditonton dua kali anda akan mengerti cerita di film ini.

Film Thailand ini mengisahkan tentang persahabatan 2 pemuda yang bernama Teung dan Tong. Yang unik adalah kedua pemuda itu mempunyai kekurangan dan kelebihan yang bisa saling melengkapi. Teung mempunyai suara yang merdu dan pintar mencipta lagu tetapi wajahnya jelek , bertubuh pendek dan gendut. Sedangkan Tong sebaliknya yaitu berwajah tampan, tubuh atletis dan pintar menari tetapi suaranya sangat jelek, kecil dan parau seperti bebek kena kanker.Mereka berdua menyadari kelebihan dan kekurangan masing-masing maka sejak masih anak-anak, mereka berdua sering bernyanyi bersama dengan menggunakan trik lip sync yaitu Teung bernyanyi sedangkan Tong hanya menari sambil menggerak-gerakkan bibir sehingga seolah-olah Tong yang menyanyi.

Suatu ketika 2 sahabat itu sama-sama mengalami nasib sial yaitu dipecat dari pekerjaannya dan menjadi pengangguran. Tetapi disaat menyedihkan itu, Teung berhasil menciptakan sebuah lagu yang indah berjudul Touch My Heart. Teung menyanyikan sendiri lagu itu kemudian merekamnya. Rekaman itu diperlihatkan kepada Tong.Tong sangat terkesan dengan lagu baru Teung itu kemudian secara diam-diam Tong membuat rekaman video dirinya menyanyikan lagu Touch My Heart dengan trik lip sync sehingga seolah-olah Tong sendiri yang menyanyikan lagu itu padahal suara yang dipakai adalah suara Teung.Secara diam-diam juga Tong menyerahkan rekaman video itu kepada sebuah produser rekaman yang hampir bangkrut bernama Double Team.

Lagu Touch My Heart yang indah ditunjang dengan wajah Tong yang tampan dan suara yang merdu (padahal itu adalah suaranya Teung) tentu saja menarik perhatian perusahaan Double Team yang dikelola oleh dua wanita bernama Ngeg dan Salee, maka mereka segera menawarkan kontrak rekaman kepada Tong.Sebenarnya ketika Tong dan Teung datang ke kantor Double Team, trik lip sync mereka ketahuan oleh Ngeg dan Salee tetapi Ngeg dan Salee tetap melihat peluang bisnis yang luar biasa maka mereka tetap menawarkan kontrak rekaman kepada Tong dan Teung dengan tetap mempertahankan trik lip Sync.Pada awalnya Tong dan Teung menolak trik lip sync yang jelas-jelas menipu masyarakat itu tetapi karena sedang benar-benar butuh uang, mereka berdua akhirnya menerima tawaran Ngeg dan Salee itu.

Ternyata naluri bisnis Ngeg dan Salee benar, ketika lagu Touch My Heart dirilis, lagu itu langsung sukses besar. Tong yang menggunakan nama Tong Lee Hei menjadi superstar.Selain Teung, Ngeg dan Salee ada satu orang lagi yang mengetahui rahasia tipuan lip sync itu yaitu seorang gadis bernama Kaew, siapakah dia? Kaew adalah kekasih Tong dan Kaew sepakat untuk tidak membocorkan rahasia itu.Suatu ketika terjadi musibah yang membawa berkah bagi Tong yaitu ketika Tong dan Keuw sedang berduaan, mereka terkena hujan yang sangat lebat sehingga Tong terkena Flu. Tetapi karena Flu itu, suara Tong menjadi normal dan tidak jelek lagi seperti bebek.Akibatnya sekarang, Tong bisa bernyanyi tanpa harus memakai trik lip sync yang harus melibatkan Teung itu. Sekarang Tong sudah tidak lagi membutuhkan Teung.

Teung sebenarnya rela sahabatnya sekarang sukses menjadi superstar biarpun semua itu berkat jasanya. Tetapi ada satu hal yang membuat Teung merasa sangat marah kepada Tong karena kepada masyarakat Tong mengaku bahwa lagu Touch My Heart yang indah itu adalah hasil ciptaannya sendiri dan bukan hasil karya Teung.Teung sangat marah kepada Tong dan pergi meninggalkannya.

Tetapi bagaimanapun juga persahabatan sejati tetap bisa mengatasi segalanya, berkat usaha keras Tong yang dibantu Kaew, Teung akhirnya bersedia memberi maaf dan mereka berdua bisa bersatu kembali.Bagaimanakah usaha Tong meluluhkan hati Teung? Saya persilahkan untuk menonton sendiri film yang mengharukan ini.
